When I am strapped for time, but still want to look polished and pretty, I rely on my trusty side braid. This hair style is super easy and provides a great look any time of year for any occasion of the day. All you need is a little bit of gel, a hair tie and some bobby pins.
Step 1: Part hair as desired. (I always side part my hair to catch all my layers, but a middle part works just as well)
Step 2: Apply gel to palm of hand and begin to tightly braid from side catching gel as you go. (The gel will ensure that hair, especially strays keep in place all day)
Step 3: Secure braid with hair tie and booby pin any back loose ends if needed.
Keep in mind that sometimes the messier the look, the better! You can also glam up your look by adding a headband or even incorporating different braid styles (fishtail, french, etc).
I can't believe it's already going to be June. This year has flown by drastically. Last year around this time I was planning our wedding and now we are in the process of looking for our first home. We've made the decision to move forward and get an apartment. House hunting is tough and want to make sure we get the house we've been looking for and not settling. It's a huge decision and I feel like it's okay to be picky about this decision.
My health is doing better in comparison to last year. I have only had one panic attack and have managed to control my anxiety and live better. Every now and then I go through depressive feelings in trying to manage my emotions to not set off the attacks, but I am learning every day. It's a constant struggle, but one that I choose not to give up.
Married life is awesome. Couples warn you of the changes and challenges of being married, but you never know until you say "I do". It is different than dating, but in a good way. It forces you to realize what is important as your bond grows stronger. It's a wonderful feeling knowing that your husband will support and be there for you every step of the way, forever. Couldn't ask for anything more.
Every now and then I like to go back and refer to the following list: 30 Things to Stop Doing to Yourself. It was sent to me by a friend and I kept the email as a little reminder. Even though the messages are simple it still provides great motivation for me and anyone else looking for a little emotional lift.
1. Stop spending time with the wrong people. – Life is too short to spend time with people who suck the happiness out of you. If someone wants you in their life, they’ll make room for you. You shouldn’t have to fight for a spot. Never, ever insist yourself to someone who continuously overlooks your worth. And remember, it’s not the people that stand by your side when you’re at your best, but the ones who stand beside you when you’re at your worst that are your true friends.
2. Stop running from your problems. – Face them head on. No, it won’t be easy. There is no person in the world capable of flawlessly handling every punch thrown at them. We aren’t supposed to be able to instantly solve problems. That’s not how we’re made. In fact, we’re made to get upset, sad, hurt, stumble and fall. Because that’s the whole purpose of living – to face problems, learn, adapt, and solve them over the course of time. This is what ultimately molds us into the person we become.
3. Stop lying to yourself. – You can lie to anyone else in the world, but you can’t lie to yourself. Our lives improve only when we take chances, and the first and most difficult chance we can take is to be honest with ourselves. Read The Road Less Traveled .
4. Stop putting your own needs on the back burner. – The most painful thing is losing yourself in the process of loving someone too much, and forgetting that you are special too. Yes, help others; but help yourself too. If there was ever a moment to follow your passion and do something that matters to you, that moment is now.
5. Stop trying to be someone you’re not. – One of the greatest challenges in life is being yourself in a world that’s trying to make you like everyone else. Someone will always be prettier, someone will always be smarter, someone will always be younger, but they will never be you. Don’t change so people will like you. Be yourself and the right people will love the real you.
6. Stop trying to hold onto the past. – You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading your last one.
7. Stop being scared to make a mistake. – Doing something and getting it wrong is at least ten times more productive than doing nothing. Every success has a trail of failures behind it, and every failure is leading towards success. You end up regretting the things you did NOT do far more than the things you did.
8. Stop berating yourself for old mistakes. – We may love the wrong person and cry about the wrong things, but no matter how things go wrong, one thing is for sure, mistakes help us find the person and things that are right for us. We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes, you are not your struggles, and you are here NOW with the power to shape your day and your future. Every single thing that has ever happened in your life is preparing you for a moment that is yet to come.
9. Stop trying to buy happiness. – Many of the things we desire are expensive. But the truth is, the things that really satisfy us are totally free – love, laughter and working on our passions.
10. Stop exclusively looking to others for happiness. – If you’re not happy with who you are on the inside, you won’t be happy in a long-term relationship with anyone else either. 11. Stop being idle. – Don’t think too much or you’ll create a problem that wasn’t even there in the first place. Evaluate situations and take decisive action. You cannot change what you refuse to confront. Making progress involves risk. Period! You can’t make it to second base with your foot on first.
12. Stop thinking you’re not ready. – Nobody ever feels 100% ready when an opportunity arises. Because most great opportunities in life force us to grow beyond our comfort zones, which means we won’t feel totally comfortable at first.

You don’t always have to pretend to be strong, and there is no need to constantly prove that everything is going well. Life has gotten in the way of my blogging, but I am on a quest to find my voice/direction. I thought this would be a cool place for me to help with fashion advice, but my job and everyday activities make it hard to keep up. I am going to try to mix in some random posts with some things that keep me inspired (fashion, food, fun, etc.). My goal in doing this is to find my inner voice and keep my mind positive.
While on hiatus, I have been steadily trying to manage issues with anxiety/panic disorder. I never knew how physically disabling this could be until this past year. I had a panic attack while driving home from work which was the offset to my struggle. I though it was from the stress of work and planning a wedding, but my symptoms have not gone away.
I have always been someone who wants everything perfect and will not stop until this happens. When this isn't the case it bothers me, but not in a healthy way. This is not good for anxiety. I am trying hard to change my mindset and let myself know that it is okay to not be "perfect", but it makes me feel like I am being punished for who I am. Since my panic attack, I find it hard to process my thoughts and internalize my emotions for fear that another attack might arise. This is hard for me and I feel awful for my husband who is trying so hard to make me happy and get me through this time.
Trying to deal with myself and figuring out the remedies to get me healthier is very exhausting and can be trying on one's self esteem. It's consumed my life and I spend a lot of time wondering what I did to cause this and when it may happen again. All it takes is that little feeling (shortness of breath, rapid heart beat) to scare me and kill all the fun. This sometimes keeps me from going anywhere. I don't want to have an attack in front of anyone or even worse embarrass my friends or family.
I have to keep positive thoughts in my head, because dealing with this would make anyone go crazy. It's hard to explain to someone who's never dealt with this, because it sounds silly and seems easy to solve, but believe me it isn't. I really want to manage this better and find my strength again and it is something I must do on my own.
To get me through I try to put things into perspective and realize that God has a plan for me and that this is just a test. A test to help me prepare for bigger and better things. Life is always a challenge and I want to continue to spread love as best I know with the people who matter to me most. Let the positivity begin!
